A home is where families grow, memories are made and possibilities arise. But sadly, not everyone has a safe, healthy place to call home. Instead, many are struggling to get by, forced to live in substandard housing. We believe everyone deserves decent, affordable housing. That's why we're doing something about it – through Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity – and you can too.
Who is Habitat for Humanity?
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit Christian housing ministry seeking to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world. Its mission is to put God's love into action by bringing people together to help build and repair homes, communities and hope.

Homes, repairs & worldwide trips
3 programs, 1 mission
Since 2005, Thrivent Builds and Habitat for Humanity have partnered to bridge communities, strengthen neighborhoods and change lives.
Within this partnership are three programs: Thrivent Builds Homes, Thrivent Builds Repairs and Thrivent Builds Worldwide. Each aspect of these programs helps us fulfill our mission to build or renovate homes, resulting in improved communities and changed lives.
From helping neighbors repair siding to building homes with families across the world, each of these programs gives you the opportunity to make a difference – no matter where you live.
Thrivent Builds Homes
Join Thrivent members and other volunteers to help families open the door to a new life by helping build simple, decent, affordable homes in local communities and across the nation.
Families are living in substandard housing – right in your community. Their houses are overcrowded, unhealthy and sometimes even dangerous. When this happens, families cannot turn their attention to higher needs such as education, emotional health, careers and healthy relationships.
But it doesn't have to be this way. Sharing your time and talents could change their lives.
How you can help
Lending your time and generosity can positively impact the lives of an entire community. By volunteering, you become part of a movement to help make decent, affordable housing a possibility for more families.
You don't need any previous construction experience to volunteer for a project – we welcome all skill levels! And, all building supplies are provided on-site, so there's no need to bring your own tools.
How projects are funded
On behalf of its members, Thrivent contributes 50% of the funding for the construction (supplies, contractors, etc.) of each home built through the partnership. Remaining costs are often covered by the fundraising efforts of Thrivent members, local Habitat offices, community and business partnerships, and local churches.
Once a home is complete, it's not just given away for free. Instead, Habitat sells it to a partner family through an affordable mortgage. Then, the homeowner's monthly mortgage payments, which they make directly to Habitat, are used to help build even more Habitat homes.
Project length: Over the course of a few months.
Goal: Give Thrivent members and other volunteers an opportunity to live generously by working alongside a family to help build a safe, healthy and affordable place they can call home.
Location: Nationwide. Volunteer for one near you today!
Thrivent Builds Homes is open to everyone! Thrivent members, church members and anyone that's interested can volunteer.

Thrivent Builds Repairs
Join Thrivent members and other volunteers for a one- or two-day project alongside a homeowner to help make exterior repairs and improvements to their home.
Sometimes, creating a safe and healthy home is as simple as making a few exterior repairs to an existing house. But for many people, maybe even in your own community, this is easier said than done.
When a porch railing breaks or windows need caulking, they may not have the resources – or the budget – to make repairs or improvements.
They want to stay in their home. They simply may need a helping hand to restore it to a better, safer place to live.
Lending just a few hours of your time could help make that happen.
Project length: One to two days.
Goal: Repair and improve existing homes in local communities to help give struggling homeowners a safer, healthier place to live.
Location: Nationwide. Volunteer for one in your community today!
Thrivent Builds Repairs is open to everyone! Thrivent members, church members and anyone that's interested can volunteer.
