Chair of the Board

N. Cornell Boggs III has been a member of the Thrivent Board of Directors since 2013 and was elected to serve as chair of the board, effective February 2023. He also chairs the Executive committee.

With his exceptional leadership abilities, Boggs guides the board as it helps Thrivent transform into a holistic financial services organization, helping people achieve financial clarity, enabling lives full of meaning and gratitude.

Boggs currently serves as a senior strategic advisor for Quarles & Brady, LLP, a national legal services firm. He previously served as a senior advisor for BarkerGilmore, LLC, a corporate legal advisory firm. In addition, Boggs served as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Toys ‘R’ Us, Inc., where he led its global legal and legislative affairs functions. Prior to Toys ‘R’ Us, Boggs served as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Dow Corning Co., leading its global legal, government affairs, corporate security, and ethics and compliance functions. In addition, he served as chief responsibility and ethics officer for MillerCoors. He previously was the chief legal officer and group vice president of public affairs for Coors Brewing Co., and vice president and general counsel for Tyco Plastics & Adhesives. He also served in the legal departments of Monsanto Co., Anheuser-Busch Companies, and Intel Corp.

Boggs began his career as a judicial clerk for the Indiana Court of Appeals, followed by an appointment to the Attorney General’s Honor Program, where he served as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice. Boggs was also a member of the Valparaiso University board for 18 years, retiring in 2022. In 2009, he was recognized as one of the 150 Most Influential People in Valparaiso’s 150-year history. He was also recognized at the Library of Congress with a Burton Award as a Legend in the Law in 2017.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with distinction from Valparaiso University and a Juris Doctor from the Valparaiso University School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in Indiana, Michigan and Missouri.

Boggs and his wife, Melissa, reside in Ludington, Michigan, where they attend Radiant Church.
