Rev. Mark Jeske has been a member of the Thrivent Board of Directors since 2011. He serves on the Audit and Investment committees.
As a pastor, author and teacher, Jeske brings a unique perspective to the board as it guides Thrivent in its promise to help people achieve financial clarity, enabling lives of meaning and gratitude.
A Milwaukee native, Jeske has served as senior pastor of St. Marcus Lutheran Church, an innercity congregation, since 1980. Today, St. Marcus is a thriving, multicultural congregation with more than 900 members. The congregation operates numerous outreach ministries, and its elementary school—which has more than 1,000 students—has been nationally recognized for its Christ-centered focus and academic excellence.
Jeske is the retired host of “Time of Grace,” a television program that began on a single Milwaukee station in November 2001. Today it airs on more than 125 stations, numerous cable networks, five satellite channels, the American Forces Network and via the Internet. While attending Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin, Jeske spent a year in Colombia starting a mission church as part of his internship assignment. He also spent two years teaching at Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown, Wisconsin, prior to beginning his ministry at St. Marcus.
Jeske is the author of several books; his latest is Hope in a Moment: Devotions for Everyday Life. He has also written more than two dozen daily devotional booklets and a Bible commentary. Jeske is an accomplished instrumentalist and is passionate about understanding history and culture.
Jeske and his wife, Carol, have four adult children and reside in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
