Regional Leadership
The Thrivent Member Network regional board is made up of Thrivent clients with membership. The board provides leadership and strategic insights to help carry out Thrivent's mission on a local level. Clients with membership can have a voice by voting in the elections for the Thrivent Member Network board.
Bruer holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child Psychology and Sociology from the University of Minnesota, a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Mary Washington. She also holds a Lifetime Membership of Girl Scouts of the USA. "The two main objectives I hope to accomplish while on the Board is to give back and make a difference. I am a strong proponent in giving back and this role is in line with my passion for helping others while at the same time utilizing my skills and experiences." Bruer has been a Thrivent Member since 1996.
Dr. Andrew Lewis is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Lewis earned his Bachelor of Science in Optometry and his Doctor of Optometry at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Lewis received intern training at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA, where he also completed his residency in ophthalmology. In addition, Dr. Lewis served 24 years in the US Navy. He volunteers at his church as the director of the praise band and head of Information and Technology for the church and school. "I want to be a part of a Christian community which has intentional outreach goals and activities that help us respond to God’s grace with service to others."
The Rev. Brenda D. White has been the Pastor of the Allen AME Church in Baltimore, MD since 2006. A Thrivent Member for over a decade, she seeks to learn and pass on best philanthropic practices which empower everyday people to self-advocate for the wellbeing of the communities they call home. She is a graduate of the University Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and the Wesley Theological Seminary of Washington, D.C. Her pursuit of higher education began with a one-way Greyhound bus ticket and $5.00 in cash when she left South Carolina and traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to enroll at UMBC. As a regional board member, Pastor Brenda hopes to inspire others to value their ideas and implement sustainable solutions for community growth and development.
National Leadership
Our leaders work in the best interest of our membership––not third-party shareholders, like publicly traded companies. Clients with a benefit membership can vote in the annual election for the Thrivent Board of Directors. As the organization’s supreme governing body, the board focuses on serving the interests of the membership, both now and into the future. The board establishes and promotes Thrivent’s purpose and oversees major business decisions, and works with leadership to assess and manage risk.
