The Good Life Challenge [video]

A congregation lives out Matthew 25

video: congregation participates in Matthew 25 challenge

Members of Bethlehem Church in Minneapolis arrived at worship one Sunday expecting the usual service. But they were surprised when they were handed envelopes filled with $20, $50 or $100 bills.

They were being tasked with finding ways to multiply the money, reflecting the Parable of the Talents from Matthew 25.

Rev. Bob Wertz, pastor of stewardship and planned giving at Bethlehem, wanted to help church members see the Matthew 25 principles in action. The project was called The Good Life Challenge.

Nearly two months after starting the challenge, participants reported their results. They also returned the original money – a total of $10,000 – plus an additional $30,000, their “multiplied” funds.

That money went to the church’s partner ministries and causes. They included a children’s ministry in Africa, a school in India and a local transitional housing program.

Several Thrivent members in the congregation created Thrivent Action Teams for additional help and resources in their Good Life Challenge efforts. Watch the video to learn about what they did to multiply their money.
