Three schools use Thrivent Choice® to give students the education they need

Every child deserves a top-notch education. But delivering that isn’t easy. Schools don’t always have the means to give students enough supplies or up-to-date technology. And parents can’t always fill all the gaps.

But, with the help of an innovative program offered to Thrivent members, parents and the community can pitch in.

Called Thrivent Choice, it’s a benefit of membership that gives eligible members the opportunity to recommend how Thrivent Financial distributes some of its charitable outreach funds among thousands of churches and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.

Here’s how those funds have made a big difference for students in three schools.

Making college possible

Luther College has used the $391,705 in Thrivent Choice grant funds it has received since 2010 for scholarships and various programs, including academic, campus ministry, and career and counseling services.

“We value the deep relationship Luther College has with our alumni, parents and friends who are Thrivent members,” says Maria Bringer Smith, director of annual giving. “The Choice Dollars program gives them the opportunity to take their giving even further, and we are very grateful!”

Giving chances

At St. Croix Lutheran in West St. Paul, Minnesota, 480 boarding and day school students in grades 6 through 12 are receiving an excellent, faith-based education.

“SCL students graduate with both the skills they need to succeed and with a personal connection to Christ,” says Todd Russ, president of the school. “Our prayer is that SCL students make a positive impact on the world by leading lives of Christian service.”

The school’s international program provides an opportunity for students from more than 15 countries to gain an American education and learn of Christ. Since its inception in 1999, many international students have been baptized and/or confirmed in the Christian faith.

Since 2010, the school has received more than $43,800 in Choice Dollars grant funds. Some of those funds were used to give scholarships to more than 100 local high school students.

In addition, Choice Dollars have supported faculty resources, including technology and continuing education, academic programs, athletics and fine arts.

Improving the classroom

Trinity Lutheran School in Wausau, Wisconsin, has 171 students in grades 4K through 8. The school has served the community for 108 years, and it’s through the help of generous funding (including Choice Dollars grant funds) that the school is able to provide its students with the latest technology and classroom tools.

Funding also supports a K-8 Spanish program, a reading intervention coordinator position and field trip transportation. The school has received $63,100 Thrivent Choice grant funds since 2010.
