Letter from our CEO: Listening, learning, responding

Paving the path to equity and inclusion.

Over the past year, we’ve faced incomprehensible challenges: a global pandemic, racial inequities, civil unrest, violence and the loss of life in cities across the U.S. In the midst of it all, we’ve grown together as a workforce—as a One Thrivent family.

We’ve adopted a model of listening, learning and then responding. We’ve listened to our colleagues as they’ve shared very personal and raw stories. Learned from one another as we’ve sought to understand the vastly complex experiences of others. Responded from our heart, using our organization’s principles and values to guide us: we are invested in one another and we live in service to others.

During the past several weeks, tensions and anxieties have been heightened by recent events, including the trial of the former police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd and the tragic police killing of Daunte Wright. We are a nation of laws. As the outcome of the trial demonstrates, our justice system, while imperfect, can work. The difficult job of law enforcement and care for communities can and should coexist. We look to continue our work in healing, learning and growing together. Our focus has always been and will continue to be keeping our workforce safe and giving everyone the space and time needed to process.

In these difficult times, please be sure to support one another. Continue to demonstrate the care and concern that are Thrivent hallmarks. Check in with your friends and loved ones. Reach out to your neighbors. Have open and honest conversations.

Let's recommit to caring for ourselves and one another. To listening, learning and responding. And to doing our part to increase racial equity and create a more inclusive organization, community and country.
