July 2006

Web Site of the Month has inviting and informative style

Congratulations to the leaders of the Central NY Chapter, especially to Ron VanTassel, vice president and Web site administrator, whose site has been named Chapter Web Site of the Month for July.

The site has a conversational tone throughout while still providing good chapter information for visitors. The home page sets this tone by immediately welcoming visitors, then inviting/encouraging them to contact the chapter with any suggestions/comments to help make the site more user friendly.

"We recently announced the Web site in a chapter-wide newsletter and hope our members will start using it as a good resource for local information," says Ron. "I believe the more we publicize the Web site and keep it up-to-date, our members will find it is the easiest way to stay informed about our chapter activities."

The site does a great job of keeping visitors informed. Features that help make this site a winner include:

  • A Thrivent Builds overview on the home page.
  • A nice message to recruit members for 2007 chapter leadership positions.
  • Biographies of the chapter leaders.
  • A description of the types of activities (fund-raisers and hands-on activities) eligible for the Care Abounds in Communities program.
  • A list of activities approved this year to help visitors understand how the chapter makes a difference in the community.
  • Good photos.
  • Links to forms that service teams need.

"I will be adding some recent photos from our Join Hands Day event and our Thrivent Builds home construction," says Ron. "We also are going to start promoting chapter-funded activities in our event calendar to help with publicity."

You can visit the site at www.lutheransonline.com/centralnychapter. Great job Ron!
