Facts

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a Fortune 500 financial services membership organization helping nearly 3 million members achieve their financial goals and give back to their communities. Thrivent Financial and its affiliates offer a broad range of financial products and services including life insurance, annuities, mutual funds, disability income insurance, bank products and more. As a not-for-profit organization, Thrivent Financial sponsors national outreach programs and activities that support congregations, schools, charitable organizations and needy individuals.

A century of service to Lutherans
Thrivent Financial's predecessor organizations Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL) and Lutheran Brotherhood (LB) were created in 1902 and 1917, respectively, to accomplish a dual purpose - to provide affordable life insurance to working-class Lutherans and be a vehicle for fellowship and financial support to Lutheran churches and communities. At the turn of the century, German- and Norwegian-Lutheran immigrants who settled in the Upper Midwest of the United States had difficulty finding affordable life insurance. Lutheran leaders created these two not-for-profit fraternal benefit societies to tie the practical objective of providing affordable life insurance to the goal of supporting Lutheran churches and communities. On Jan. 1, 2002, AAL and LB united to create Thrivent Financial, the largest fraternal benefit society in the United States.

As a fraternal, Thrivent Financial also maintains a network of 1,400 chapters where members gather for fellowship and community service. These chapters leverage the financial support from Thrivent Financial by attracting and coordinating volunteers who participate in the benevolent programs that benefit members and the broader community.

Over the years, Thrivent Financial has expanded its offerings to provide a full range of financial products through a nationwide network of 2,500 financial representatives. Thrivent Financial also remains a leading financial supporter of Lutheran communities, causes and benevolent outreach.

Making a difference
For more than 100 years, Thrivent Financial has created programs and opportunities for Lutherans to support their congregations and institutions and reach out to their communities. Over the past 10 years, Thrivent Financial has provided more than $1 billion for charitable, benevolent and educational purposes. This support includes grants, scholarships, disaster relief, matching-gift programs, youth programs, wellness resources, and more. In addition, the organization's chapter structure annually engages the organization's members in volunteer service to others. In 2006, this support totaled 21.7 million of volunteer hours of service.

Financial security
Thrivent Financial and its affiliated companies offer a broad range of competitive, high-quality financial products and services including life insurance, disability income insurance, business insurance, fixed and variable annuities, mutual funds and banking products and services. Many of these financial solutions are delivered to Thrivent Financial members through a network of 2,500 financial representatives across the United States. Thrivent Financial ranks among America's largest and most respected financial services organizations.

Thrivent Financial has received very high ratings by independent insurance analysts for its claims-paying ability and its financial strength.*
