The Thrivent Builds chapter specialist is a non-voting, non-elected position on the chapter leadership board charged with supporting the Thrivent Builds program in the chapter.
What are the responsibilities of the Thrivent Builds chapter specialist?
- Encourages member engagement through the involvement of Lutherans and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members (and others) in volunteer and fund-raising efforts to support Thrivent Builds.
- Assists interested congregations in identifying Thrivent Builds congregational champions to support local Thrivent Builds Homes projects.
- Educates Thrivent Builds congregational champion.
- Assists Thrivent Builds Congregational Champions in setting congregational fund-raising and volunteer recruitment goals.
- Supports local Thrivent Builds work efforts and acts as local Thrivent Builds subject matter expert.
- Works closely with the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate and Lutheran Community Services staff to plan Thrivent Builds Homes projects, set goals and monitor fund-raising and volunteer recruitment efforts and build milestones.
- Identifies Thrivent Financial members and others to form service teams that will raise funds and provide volunteers to support Thrivent Builds efforts.
- Maintains Thrivent Builds chapter account and monitors funding flow and disbursements to affiliates.
- Updates chapter leadership board about Thrivent Builds efforts and involves chapter leaders as needed.
How much time will this position require?
- Estimated to take up to 10 to 12 hours a week during peak periods.
- More than one person can be appointed to take on the responsibilities listed above, which will reduce the number of hours each person will need to complete the responsibilities.
How will Thrivent Financial support this position?
The manager of Lutheran community services (MLCS) and other paid staff at the regional financial office will provide direction, guidance and training for this position. There will be regular contact, in person, by phone and/or by e-mail.
What knowledge, skills and qualities will the person need to fulfill the
role?
- Needs to be a Thrivent Financial member.
- Passion and commitment for the Thrivent Builds program.
- Strong organizational and relationship building skills.
- Ability to track funds and perform basic accounting processes.
- Desire to engage Thrivent Financial members, Lutherans and others in meaningful volunteer opportunities.
- Ability to attract and retain volunteers.
- Access to the Internet and e-mail required.*
- Access to Microsoft Word and Excel strongly encouraged.

The Thrivent Builds congregational champion is charged with supporting the Thrivent Builds program in the congregation.
What are the responsibilities of the Thrivent Builds congregational champion?
- Educates and inspires Thrivent Financial members and others within the congregation to get involved in Thrivent Builds efforts.
- Supports local Thrivent Builds work efforts and acts as Thrivent Builds subject matter expert within the congregation.
- Works closely with the Thrivent Builds chapter specialist to achieve and monitor volunteer and fund-raising goals.
- Recruits volunteers within the congregation to support Thrivent Builds Homes.
- Oversees congregational fund-raising efforts to support Thrivent Builds Homes and reports results to the Thrivent Builds chapter specialist.
- Identifies Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members and others within the congregation to form service teams that will raise funds and provide volunteers to support Thrivent Builds efforts.
How much time will this position require?
- Estimated to take 3 to 4 hours a week during peak periods (e.g., in the months preceding a build).
What knowledge, skills and qualities will the person need to fulfill the
role?
- Needs to be a Thrivent Financial member.
- Passion and commitment for the Thrivent Builds program.
- Desire to engage Thrivent Financial members, Lutherans and others in meaningful volunteer opportunities.
- Organizational and motivational skills.
- Ability to attract volunteers.
- Access to the Internet and e-mail desired.*
Note: Current congregational coordinators may or may not hold this position.
