Thrivent Financial for Lutherans understands that every community has unique and ever-changing needs. That’s why the Care Abounds in Communities program has a limited number of program requirements. This provides chapters the flexibility to help individuals and not-for-profit organizations in a way that works best for all involved.
 
  Activity Requirements
Eligible
recipients

  • Individuals/families.
  • Charitable, educational, religious and other organizations exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Ineligible
activities

  • Activities conducted in foreign countries.
  • Activities supporting Thrivent Builds.
  • Activities where a congregation is the recipient.
Service team requirements to receive funding
  • Must consist of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members (benefit, associate, and/or youth members) from at least six different households. (After the six-member-household requirement is met, nonmembers also are encouraged to participate in the activity.)
  • Must be actively involved in the activity (i.e., provide the labor).
Important
dates

  • Dec. 18 —Last day that new 2008 activity/funding requests can be made; that previously approved funding amounts can be changed; and that additional funding can be added to an existing activity. No exceptions can be made.
  • Dec. 31—Last day to report 2008 activity results to be included in 2008 totals.
Funding
requirements

  • To receive funding, requests must be entered online before an activity occurs.
  • Care Abounds in Communities funds for the year are not carried over to the next year.
  • Care Abounds in Communities program funds for an activity cannot exceed the remaining funds available for the chapter.

Fund-raising

  • Donor checks must be made payable to the Thrivent chapter.
  • Funds raised must be deposited into the chapter’s
    checking account.
 
Funding levels

  • $100 minimum per service team per activity.
  • $1,600 maximum for qualified not-for-profit organization per service team per activity.
  • $5,000 maximum for individual/family per service team per activity.
  • $100 minimum per service team per activity.
  • $1,600 maximum per service team per activity.
  • Up to 50 percent up-front funding may be provided before the activity to purchase needed supplies
Note: Activities are reimbursed up to the amount of expenses incurred for the purchase of required materials.
Ineligible uses
of funding
 
  • Educational, recognition or social events.
  • Supplies for fund-raising activities.
  • Payment of professional or contracted services by vendors.
  • As a direct grant.


Confidentiality and Privacy

Both Thrivent Financial and its chapter leaders have a responsibility to respect and uphold the confidentiality and privacy of those who entrust us with personal information. Not only is this practice mandated, it is the right thing to do.

With this in mind, be sure to keep all personal information private and take steps to retain confidentiality (e.g., not sharing member lists inappropriately, etc.).

Permission to Disclose Information form
Recipients (i.e., those who receive assistance) must complete a Permission to Disclose Information form. This signed form provides Thrivent Financial permission to use, disclose and publish the

recipient’s name and other related information about the recipient for the purpose of planning, conducting, advertising and communicating the results of an activity for the recipient’s benefit. If the recipient is a qualified not-for-profit organization, the form needs to be signed only if a person’s name or likeness is published. This includes an employee or volunteer of the not-for-profit organization.
