- A term runs
from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 of each calendar year.
- Members may serve
in elected leadership board positions in any chapter for a maximum of four consecutive
terms. (Elected positions consist of president, vice president, records
director, congregational service team director, financial director, community
service team director, communications director, assistant financial director,
events director and youth director.)
- If a member serves
on the chapter leadership board in any elected board position(s) for four consecutive
years, even if they change chapters during that time, that member is required to take a two-year absence before serving again in an elected position on the leadership board. However,
that member may serve on the board in an appointed
advisory board position.
- If a member is appointed to an elected chapter leadership position
anytime during a calendar year, the partial-term counts as one full
term toward the term-limit guidelines stated above.
Examples:
- If Joe serves in an elected chapter leadership position in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006, he cannot serve in an elected leadership position again until 2009 (two-year absence).
- If Sally serves in an elected chapter leadership position in 2003, 2004 and 2005, but does not hold an elected position in 2006, Sally can again hold an elected position in 2007. She then may serve up to four consecutive terms again if she wishes (2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010).
- If Ted served in an elected chapter leadership position for 10 months of 2003, all of 2004, all of 2005 and 3 weeks in 2006, this counts as four consecutive terms, and he cannot serve in an elected position again until 2009 (two-year absence).
- If Ted served in an elected chapter leadership position for ABC Chapter in 2003 and 2004, then moved and served in an elected leadership position for XYZ Chapter in 2005 and 2006, this counts as four consecutive terms, and he cannot serve in an elected position again--for any chapter--until 2009 (two-year absence).
Purpose of term limits
Term limits are in
no way intended to disengage outgoing leaders from our chapter system
or to reflect a lack of appreciation for the skills and effort provided
by current leaders—the chapter service team concept is designed to
provide members with many other ways to be actively involved in their
chapter even during the time they are not serving on the leadership board.
