Bus rental guidelines
Renting a bus for chapter member outings — guidelines
Occasionally, a chapter may host an activity where securing a bus company to provide transportation makes sense (e.g., a chapter-hosted sporting event in another city, etc).
For those rare occasions where a bus is needed to transport members to a Thrivent chapter-hosted event, it’s important that chapters follow these guidelines:
- Use only a reputable bus company
- Request proof of insurance of at least $2 million (see notes below) from the bus company before completing a contract. The certificate of insurance should be kept with the chapter’s records.
- In some rural areas, or areas where there aren’t many bus companies, it may be difficult to find a company that holds $2 million in coverage. In those areas, find a company that can provide you written proof (certificate of insurance) for $1 million minimum.
- Some bus companies may hold $1 million in automobile coverage, but then show proof of an additional $1 million to $2 million umbrella policy. That is acceptable coverage.
