Leadership
board: eligibility & specifics
- To hold any office, elected or appointed, the person must be a Thrivent
Financial benefit or associate member (age 16 or older).
- All elected leaders must be from different households. ("Household" is defined as the members who live at a single residential address.)
- Person in a leadership role must be a member of the chapter the board serves.
- All elected positions serve a one-year term beginning Jan. 1 (or whenever appointed) and ending
Dec. 31.
- Members may serve in elected leadership board postions for a maximum of four consecutive terms. (Elected positions consist of president, vice president, records director, congregational service team director, financial director, community service team director, communications director, assistant financial director, events director and youth director.)
- If a member serves on the chapter leadership board in elected board positions
for four consecutive years, that member is required to take a two-year
absence before serving again in an elected position on any chapter's leadership
board. However, that member may serve on the board in an appointed
advisory board position. (See term-limit requirements and examples!
)
- If a member is appointed to an elected chapter leadership board position, the partial-year term counts as one full term toward the term-limit guidelines stated above. Going forward, it is expected that the position be included on the chapter leader election ballot.
- All elected chapter leaders on the leadership board have equal voting rights
(one vote per person) regardless of their position on the leadership board.
- Chapter advisory board members do not have any term limits, but they are subject to annual reappointments by the newly elected chapter leaders each year. Regardless of when an advisory board member is appointed, his or her service ends Dec. 31 of that year.
- Internet and e-mail access are required for the records director and financial
director. In addition, it is expected that the congregational service team director, communications director, assistant financial director and Internet advisor have Internet and e-mail access. With the ongoing transition to an online chapter system, it is strongly encouraged that all leaders have e-mail and Internet access.
- As elected and appointed positions of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans,
a chapter leader's name, address, phone number and e-mail address will
be available through the Internet to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members
who belong to that chapter.
- The chapter leadership board is responsible for approving Care Abounds in
Communities® program activity/funding issues.
- The chapter leadership board is responsible for approving any appointment or removal of congregational coordinators.
- It is a good idea for the chapter leadership board to approve the existing congregational coordinators at the beginning of each year. (If all three congregational coordinators continue to the next year, no changes to the system are required at the beginning of the new year.)
