As a chapter leader, you and the great work you do are an important part
of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. This is reflected in our mission
and vision. Understanding
the mission of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and conveying our vision to
chapter members are crucial leadership responsibilities.
Our mission summarizes why we exist as an organization and captures the heart
of the organization. Our vision tells us what our organization will be like
when we realize our mission. To fulfill this mission and vision, it is essential
for chapter leaders to be committed to our core values.
Core Values
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans was founded to help Lutherans care for and
support one another in time of need, guided by the principles of the Christian
faith. We remain committed to this rich fraternal heritage as we strive to
achieve the highest possible good for members, staff and society. We hold
these values to be essential as we work to fulfill our mission, vision and
strategies.

As I fulfill my role with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, I will strive
to achieve the highest possible good for our members, staff and the community
by carrying out our shared values of:
- Stewardship. Making sure that what is best for members drives
my every decision.
- Accountability. Being accountable for my individual actions.
- Integrity. Treating others with honesty, respect and dignity.
- Growth. Being committed to personal and organizational growth.
- Community. Demonstrating concern for the whole person.
Chapter leader roles
As a chapter leader, your role is to:
- Provide strategic direction, leadership planning and administration support
to the chapter and its congregational and community service teams.
- Allocate dollars to community service teams for helping individuals, families
and qualified
not-for-profit organizations.
- Take into account members' views when voting on matters of the chapter
(e.g., funding requests from service teams).
- Encourage service teams to publicize chapter activities.
- Meet
at least once every three months (in person or aided by technology).
However, the chapter leadership board should meet as often as necessary
to remain a viable, active chapterquarterly at a minimum.
- Provide notice of upcoming meetings and activities to Thrivent Financial
for Lutherans members.
- Manage the process for the local chapter leadership election.
- Be good stewards of the resources available to chapters by encouraging member involvement, awareness and impact.
- Invite elected officials and Thrivent Financial representatives to attend chapter activities.
- Recognize and thank your volunteers. Local recognition is a great way to recruit and retain volunteers.
- Inform members of what the chapter is doing, and has done, to increase
member awareness and engagement.
