Volunteer
hours — examples
All examples assume at least six
member households were involved in the activity.
- A service team of more than six member households forms to paint and clean
a community center. The service team requests and receives funds from the
Care Abounds in Communities® program to support the purchase of supplies related
to these hands-on service activities. Hours associated with these Thrivent
Financial-hosted service activities count as volunteer hours.
- Six members spend three hours planning an activity = 18 volunteer hours
(6x3).
- 10 nonmembers and six Thrivent Financial members from different households
each spend 10 hours volunteering to complete the hands-on service activities
= 160 volunteer hours (16x10).
- Total volunteer hours to report = 178 hours.
- A service team forms to raise money to help a congregation send 10 youth
to an inner-city mission trip. The service team hosts a car wash fund-raising
activity and donates the proceeds, earmarked for the mission trip, to the
congregation. Funds raised are supplemented through the Care in Congregations®
program. Hours spent planning, preparing for and working at the car wash fund-raiser
count as volunteer hours because it is hosted by a Thrivent Financial for Lutherans chapter
service team. Hours spent by the youth traveling to and working on their mission
trip do not count as Thrivent Financial volunteer hours.
- 12 members plan car wash for three hours = 36 hours (12x3).
- 10 nonmembers and six Thrivent Financial members from different households
wash cars for three hours = 48 hours (16x3).
- 10 youth on mission trip for a day = 0 hours.
- Total volunteer hours to report = 84 hours.
- A chapter plans a social "day at the ballgame" activity (a locally supported chapter activity) for chapter members. Hours spent by the six member households planning,
preparing for and working at the activity should be counted as volunteer hours.
There are no program funds associated with this event. Hours spent by those
attending the activity do not count as volunteer hours.
- 10 members spend three hours to plan and make necessary arrangements
for the ballgame and to publicize the social event = 30 hours (10x3).
- 100 people (in addition to the 10 service team members) attend the 4-hour game = 0 hours.
- Total volunteer hours to report as a locally supported chapter activity = 30 hours.
- Total attendance (attendees plus service team members) to report as a locally supported chapter activity = 110.
