Volunteer hours — tracking and reporting
The hours spent planning,
preparing for and working at meetings and activities are valuable time spent
by volunteers and are crucial for successful activities. Thrivent Financial
for Lutherans uses volunteer hours to measure success and show other fraternal
benefit societies, state and federal regulators and other individuals and groups
the magnitude of chapters' involvement in grassroots efforts to help individuals,
churches and communities.
What are volunteer hours?
Volunteer hours encompass all time spent by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members and nonmembers:
- Planning, preparing for and working at all funded and locally supported chapter
activities hosted by a Thrivent Financial for Lutherans chapter service team or the
chapter leadership board. This includes time spent traveling as part of volunteering.
- Planning and preparing for chapter business meetings (e.g., preparing
agendas, reports, completing reporting, purchasing supplies).
- Attending chapter business meetings (e.g, eight people attending a
two-hour chapter business meeting equals 16 volunteer hours). This is
allowable because chapter-related work is being completed at the meeting.
What does NOT count as volunteer hours?
Time spent attending activities does not count as volunteer hours. People who attend a chapter service team activity, but did not help plan, prepare for or
work at the activity, should be included in the attendance. However, their time at the activity does not count as volunteer hours.
- The chapter service team should report only
its share of volunteer hours that it contributed toward the activity.
- If multiple chapter service teams host an activity, each service team reports only its fair share of the volunteer hours.
