For Care Abounds in Communities® activities, donor checks should be written to the chapter (e.g., Dane County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans) and deposited into the chapter's checking account.
This provides proof of the funds that were reportedly raised and provides the documentation that regulatory agencies look for when reviewing Thrivent Financial's practices and fund-raising activity.
For Care in Congregations® activities, the check should be written to the congregation, as this is the sole recipient group for this program. This eliminates the need for the chapter leadership board to write a check back to the church. (The congregational service team will need to ensure that the funds are allocated to the intended organization or project within the church, if applicable.) Note: If a check is made out to Thrivent Financial rather than the congregation, the check must be endorsed by a chapter leader as chapter leaders are the only ones who can endorse checksmade out to Thrivent Financialto another entity. If no chapter leaders are available, then it would be best to ask to have the check reissued to the congregation.
