More than $10 Million in Aid to Hurricane Victims
Rescue operations were still ongoing in the wake of Hurricane Katrina when Thrivent Financial for Lutherans announced a multi-million-dollar commitment in response to the disaster. Thrivent Financial and its members are giving an estimated $6 million for immediate disaster relief by supplementing member donations and fund-raising efforts. Thrivent Financial also added $5 million to its $100 million Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity alliance, with these additional funds earmarked for rebuilding areas devastated by the storm.
At the individual level, any gift a member makes to one of four eligible Lutheran relief organizations will be supplemented $1 for every $2 given, up to a supplement of $300 per member. (Eligible organizations are the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Domestic Disaster Response, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod World Relief/Human Care, the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod Committee on Relief and Lutheran Disaster Response.) At the regional and chapter level, members can form a service team to hold a fund-raiser and have those funds supplemented $1 for every $2 raised.
To make a gift, simply download a Hurricane Katrina Response Form at www.thrivent.com/fraternal/katrina.html or call 800-236-3736.
"Our heart goes out to all those who have suffered loss as a result of this natural disaster," said Brad Hewitt, Thrivent Financial senior vice president of fraternal operations. "Supporting the ways in which our members express their care for others is an important part of our mission."
