Pulling Together —
A Welcome note from Thrivent Financial

There was good news about Americans’ commitment to volunteerism in the results of the latest Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Current Issues Poll. The poll measured the opinions of a nationally representative sample of American adults in late 2004.
The key statistic: A majority of Americans (57 percent) volunteered last year—an encouraging 9 percent jump from 2003. The survey
revealed that, in many cases, Americans’ concerns about national security were motivating them to volunteer. Not surprisingly, so was faith. In fact, three out of four say they volunteer to act on their moral values.
For Thrivent Financial, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of Lutherans and their communities, it’s clear that momentum is on our side. Last year, our members gave more than 19 million hours of their time to volunteering through Thrivent Financial programs. This issue of Thrivent magazine is dedicated to building on the momentum by motivating even more members to volunteer. As individuals, we can each build a better life. Together, we can change the world.
We hope the faces and voices of our cover story (p. 9) will inspire you to connect with your local Thrivent
chapter, multiply your giving through GivingPlus® and improve your community with money from the Care Abounds in Communities™ program. Just turn the pages of this issue to get started making a difference—in the lives of others, and in your own.
Sincerely,
