5 Ways You Can Change The World Today— Think one person’s efforts don't make a difference?

compiled by Sarah Asp

It's the love of a Sunday school teacher in Georgia. The nourishment of children in Haiti. The healing of wounded soldiers home from Iraq. Inspiring stories of the ways Lutherans are reaching out to teach, feed, heal, clothe and shelter others. Single endeavors, nothing revolutionary. But taken in total, acts of outreach and kindness like these are slowly transforming our world—and hopefully inspiring you to do the same.

Jennifer Kernan   Teach

“I think volunteering is pretty important in helping make the world a better place. God gave us this beautiful earth; I want to do whatever I can to keep it beautiful.”
—Jennifer Kernan

Susie Honea   Feed

“You can change your own little world, even in your own household. You can make it a better place, and from there it just grows to your church and to the schools and to the community. You can make a difference in your own little world.”
—Susie Honea

Jeanne and Ed Heidman   Shelter

“It all starts with one person. You can’t just sit back and throw up your hands and say, ‘There are too many problems in this world and I can’t help it’—because you can.”
—Jeanne and Ed Heidman

Gene Pasche   Clothe

“Our time is really not our time—it’s the Lord’s time, and there’s a reason why we’re here. We should use that time to the ability and the gifts that the Lord has given us.”
—Gene Pasche

David Hales   Heal

“The ‘thank yous’ you get are better than money. Those you keep and you don’t spend. Volunteering is a great life.”
—David Hales
