Assessing Your Investment Risk

Investing successfully in mutual funds is all about finding balance amid the shifting sands of the stock and bond markets. Because the one certainty about the markets is that they fluctuate, it’s important for you to discover your appetite for risk.

Your Thrivent Financial representative can help you figure out your risk tolerance.
Here’s an overview of what that means:

  • Risk is the possibility that your investments won’t perform as expected. There is no guarantee that your investments will perform as you expect or as they have historically.
  • Different mutual funds have differing risk profiles. Stock funds tend to be more risky, while bond funds are less risky, with money market funds being the least risky of all.
  • Reward is the potential gain you receive from your investments. The flip side of risk is reward. When you take an investment risk, the potential for investment reward is typically higher because risk and reward operate hand-in-hand. There is no reward without risk.
  • Investment risk is mitigated during the long term. A long time horizon–10 years or longer–enables you to ride out most stock and bond market fluctuations.

Your Thrivent Financial representative is here to help you construct a well-diversified portfolio, appropriately balancing risk and reward. To this end, your Thrivent Financial representative will help you complete our AssetMatchSM Questionnaire

For more information about determining your risk tolerance or about investing in Thrivent Mutual Funds, contact a Thrivent Financial representative today.
