How Much Do I Want?

When considering how much life insurance coverage you'll want to purchase, consider carefully:
  • Your goals for your overall financial program.
  • Your wishes for your survivors.

Consider how well you have protected your loved ones from financial loss by insuring your most valuable asset—the economic value that you provide to your loved ones.

Determining the Economic Value You Provide for Your Loved Ones
Your economic value to your loved ones, sometimes called your Human Life Value, is today's value of your future earning potential—the amount that you will earn during your lifetime—to be used for the care of your loved ones or dependents.

Your Thrivent Financial representative can help you determine your economic value by using the following factors:

  • Your current annual earnings.
  • The rate at which your annual earnings increase.
  • The number of years you plan to work until retirement.
  • The reasonable gross rate of return that you expect invested assets to earn.

Understanding the economic value you provide for your loved ones is a great first step as you create or update your personal life insurance program.

The Next Step
Next, you'll need to determine how much of your future economic value you will want to replace in the event of your death. This will depend on the financial goals you set for yourself and your survivors.

These goals, and others, will all be considered when helping you determine how much life insurance coverage is right for you. Contact your Thrivent Financial representative and take the next steps toward establishing peace of mind.
