Katie Sleznikow
Withee, WI
Clark County WI Chapter #30921

Katie SleznikowKatie Sleznikow is a teen who doesn’t let any limitation slow her down. Katie and the rest of her family are members of the Clark County WI Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and are active in many chapter and community fund-raising activities.

The entire family participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life walk in 2005, and Katie raised the most money—$1,300—of anyone. That’s quite an accomplishment for someone who was diagnosed with cancer at age 4 and has undergone at least 14 surgeries. Katie walked 14 miles in the relay, and also served as a spokesperson/honorary chairperson for the event, which raised nearly $20,000.
As a cancer survivor, Katie was able to call attention to childhood cancer, which resulted in many youth participating in Relay for Life.

Katie has also participated in other chapter fund-raisers, including a local Alzheimer’s Walk, and served at benefit dinners at Nazareth Lutheran through the Care in Congregations® program. Along with her parents, she is also very active in her congregation, where she teaches Sunday school, reads Sunday scriptures, and serves as a janitor. She is also involved with the Children’s Miracle Network and, as a brown belt at Derrico’s Black Belt School, she often mentors younger students.
