David Franklin Coleman II
Gallatin, TN
North Central TN Chapter #30454
The power of the chapter system was clearly demonstrated through
Frankie Coleman one Sunday morning when circumstances prevented
him from making an announcement in church about his effort to
raise funds for a mission trip to Haiti. Not to be deterred,
Frankie simply went home and e-mailed every family in his congregation
who are members of the North Central Chapter of Thrivent Financial
for Lutherans. The e-mail made them aware of his efforts and
the supplemental funds available, and you can be sure that Frankie
reached his goal, and then some!
Throughout 2005, Frankie was involved in numerous other activities
at church, in the community and at school. He doesn’t consider
any job too menial and helped set up and clean up for the New
Year’s Eve Game Night, all church potluck dinners, the
Tennessee State Special Olympics at Gallatin High, Thanksgiving
Night in the Hunger Fight, and the church’s Easter Breakfast.
He also served as leader of the third and fourth graders invited
from the community to attend his church’s Vacation Bible
School, and organized youth in the World Vision 30 Hours of Famine
Fast. He volunteers with the church’s oil-change ministry,
as well, to provide free oil changes for the elderly, single
parents and spouses of those serving overseas. He has also assumed
a leadership role in engaging the children and the youth in church
activities. By working with youth at events such as Vacation
Bible School and Oktoberfest and his constant encouragement,
the youth group is stronger than ever.
Frankie’s list of community involvement is long. He collected
books for homeless children through Future Business Leaders of
America, participated in the American Heart Association’s
Dear Neighbor campaign, served as a volunteer for the March of
Dimes, joined other volunteers to clean the grounds at Gallatin
High, participated in his school’s Red Cross Blood Drive,
went door-to-door collecting for Gallatin C.A.R.E.S., and collected
money for the Cumberland Crisis Pregnancy Center. He also donated
time or funds to: the Shriners, Project Angel Tree, Katrina Relief,
UNICEF, Trinity/HOPE, American Heart Association, Wakefield Honorary
Scholarship Fund, and the March of Dimes. In addition, he belongs
to several groups that mobilize their members for service, including
DECA, an association of marketing students; Fellowship of Christian
Athletes; and Future Business Leaders of America.
