Howard Seigfreid
Tulsa, OK
Tulsa County OK Chapter
Howard served as president of the Tulsa County OK Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans for two years and, under his direction in 2004, the chapter started a public awareness campaign by producing newspaper announcements of chapter activities, information on its mission, purpose and leaders, and leadership board meeting information. The board members presented training for congregational coordinators to show them how to assist their communities through Care Abounds in Communities® and Care in Congregations® program activities, and how the chapter board could be of support. Howard was the spirit behind recruitment of associate family members in the greater Tulsa area, which led to an increase in membership and donor connections to local Lutheran organizations enrolled in the GivingPlus® Program. The chapter coordinated a Care in Regions® program project for eastern OK and western AR that benefited the Oaks Indian Mission, a pan-Lutheran social service agency in OK. The chapter and its 15 congregations delivered $325,472 in “Care for Others” in 2004, 173 percent of its goal.
In 2004, Howard was treasurer and council member of Bethany Lutheran Church, as well as a board member, facilities committee member, and an active volunteer of Oaks Indian Mission. He was treasurer of the Texaco Retiree Chapter and vice president of the Texaco/Getty/Skelly Retiree Chapter. He also was involved in Trinity Ministries, a new partnership of Lutheran churches in the Tulsa area, which delivers Meals on Wheels every Wednesday. Trinity Ministries was awarded a Charitable Gifting Grant by Thrivent Financial to provide education on planned giving as well as all aspects of leaving a legacy. Through Howard’s leadership, many connections were made between the chapter and the other programs he serves as a volunteer.
Many of the chapter and community activities in which Howard is active creates programs that focus on the needs of all age groups, and involves everyone from seniors to youth. He has led volunteers of all ages in carrying out building maintenance, crafts, planning, and conducting the annual Christmas gift program, which involves volunteers of all ages from area churches and the Native American children from the Oaks Indian Mission. He is also involved in fund-raisers to support expanding the Oaks program to take in more needy children.
