Southeast DuPage County Chapter

Since the formation of the Southeast Dupage County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Mark has been the driving force in recruiting and training congregational coordinators. He has been instrumental in working with the coordinators to help them learn how to research projects for their congregations and communities. He makes himself available to answer questions regarding chapter structure and how to best use Care Abounds in Communities® and Care in Congregations® program funds. Mark also serves, unofficially, as community service team director.

Using his knowledge as a firefighter, Mark serves his congregation and community. He volunteers to take blood pressures for the elderly and other congregational members in need of this service, and serves as an usher at his church. He is actively involved in his children’s education and was appointed to the board for education of Trinity Lutheran School. He frequently chaperones on field trips, and has worked with youth group activities such as the annual plant sale, the Pumkin Patch, and the Hallow Him Fest. He is active with the Champs swim team, where he announces at all home swim meets, helps with fund-raising, handles concession set-up, and maintains the group’s Web site. He also volunteers to help the team administrator with financial matters.

Mark is very involved in the youth group and helped bridge the “generation” gap with the children while still having a lot of fun. He has worked with Spanish-speaking parents in the Berwyn/Cicero area to line up translators, and he monitors classes and works together with the other teachers. In his job as a firefighter, he has the opportunity to be a mentor and example to the community. He was involved in an open house for fire prevention week when the school children come to the firehouse and had lunch with the shift. He also worked at “Fill the Boot Day” for MDA in his community, and frequently helps his elderly neighbors by cutting grass and shoveling snow.
