What training will I receive as a financial intern?

We’ll provide the training you need to help you succeed. Training topics include:

  • How to prospect for new clients.
  • Working with your natural market—the people you know.
  • Following the Thrivent Advisory process, a proven approach to working with clients and prospects
  • Fact-finding and preparing cases.
  • Understanding Thrivent Financial's life and health insurance products and services.
  • Learning about our volunteer programs.
  • Using computer software.

To whom will I report?
You'll report to the mentoring financial associate with oversight by the managing partner of the regional financial office. Other mentoring financial associates also may work with you.

Will I actually be able to write business for Thrivent Financial products?
Yes, you'll play an active role in our business—writing business jointly with your mentoring financial associate or other mentor financial associates. You’ll also have an opportunity to receive commissions and bonuses based on productivity.

Will I need any licenses to be an intern? If so, which ones?
You'll need a state life and health insurance license in all states where you are conducting business and receiving commissions. This license is required before your contract date. Ask your local recruiter for information on obtaining your state life and health insurance licenses so you may begin your internship at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Am I eligible for any incentives or recognition as a financial intern?
Yes, the top 10% of interns will have the opportunity to join some of our most successful producers at the annual Thrivent Financial sales conference.

How do I qualify for the sales conference?

  • Be among the top 10% of financial interns, based on total ABCs earned during their first 12 weeks of work as an intern during the year.
  • Be in good standing with Thrivent Financial.
  • Make a commitment to Thrivent Financial beyond your first 12 weeks–either as an intern the following summer or as a full-time financial associate after graduation.

Do I have to be Lutheran to be an intern?
While it’s important to be able to build a relationship within Lutheran congregations, institutions and households, you do not need to be Lutheran to take advantage of this internship opportunity.

Your recruiter can provide additional details about ABCs and other qualifications.
