Senior Financial Consultant
Libertyville, Illinois
Chicagoland Region
Many people would be apprehensive about entering the financial services field with little background—but not Dick Drews.
Originally a Lutheran pastor, Dick was armed with a knack for relating to people and an understanding of how Lutherans think. While he admits entering the financial services field was tough, Dick eventually developed the skills and knowledge he needed to succeed. He is a strong believer in continuing education, which his professional designations represent.
As important as education is, Dick learned early in his career that it could only take him so far because the other key to success is relating to people. In addition to serving members, developing relationships with peers also helped him grow because he learned and shared best practices. He continues to value the friendships he has with several colleagues, including Larry Winter, Jerry "JJ" Johnson and Darrell Shideler, and values their support and encouragement.
Dick is now fortunate to pass his wisdom on to new FRs. He and his partner, Brian Anderson, lead a team in the Chicago area that focuses on mentoring those in their first years of their careers. His advice to them is simple: There is no substitute for activity. He reminds them that they won’t know if this career is right for them unless they are active.
Dick resides in Libertyville, Ill., with his wife, Pat, and they have two grown children, Cory and Darcy. Dick also enjoys playing golf, cheering on the Green Bay Packers and volunteering locally at his church and nationally with WheatRidge Ministries and on the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Foundation Board of Trustees.
