As the youngest of seven with four older brothers, Al Fabricius had to live up to a lot of expectations. As a result, he looked up to his brothers and still considers them his heroes. And because they had successful careers in financial services, Al notes, "I always knew I would pursue a career in this profession, too—the only question was when."
After 10 years of teaching and coaching, Al was ready to make the change. With the support of his loving wife, Karen, and his general manager, Duane Kiefle, Al transitioned into his new career and has thrived serving members ever since. His secret to success is that he loves his job. As part of the Metro Valley Team in Fargo, N. D., Al drives 55 miles from his home to his office every day, which goes to show how committed he is. With a satisfying career since 1981, his most meaningful professional accomplishment is helping members achieve their financial goals. Among other professional achievements, qualifying for Thrivent Financial’s Hall of Fame tops them all.
Complete with a friendly personality and positive attitude, it’s easy to see why Al relates well to other people. The members Al serves can sense that he genuinely cares about them, and they usually open up easily. Al admits that he can’t take care of all their needs but he can certainly help them be financially secure.
Currently, Al and Karen live “on golden pond”—otherwise known as Lake Jewett outside of Fergus Falls, Minn. Their expanding family includes two daughters, Jodi and Jill, a son-in-law, Nathan, and a grandson, Samuel. When Al isn’t spending time with Samuel at his lake home, he can be found golfing or cheering on his favorite sports teams.
